Meyer Steel Drum: The obvious choice

Ed Meyer Sr. and Bill Meyer founded Meyer Steel Drum in 1976, when they opened a steel drum reconditioning plant at the company's current headquarters at 3201 S. Millard Ave. in Chicago.  Rapid growth inspired them to expand the business to drum manufacturing and they opened a new plant the following year at 2000 S. Kilbourn Ave., Chicago.

As the company continued to flourish, the reconditioning plant could barely keep up with the demand for high-quality restoration services.  As a result, the Meyers acquired the former ICS drum reconditioning company at 610 W. 81st St. in Chicago in 2003.

The two men subsequently saw future growth opportunities in the drum closure market and bought Ideal Gerit, a drum closure manufacturer and reconditioner, in 2004.  The facility is at 4401 W. Roosevelt Rd.

Today, Meyer Steel Drum manufactures about 3,500 drums and reconditions more than 7,000 drums a day at some of the most modern facilities in the country.  We are proud of our accomplishments to date and know we have the staying power to serve customers for years to come.
